Matches stay hidden until you choose to show them, so the organizer can join in too.
How to draw names for Secret Santa
- 1
Add everyone's names
One per line, or separated by commas. If two people share a first name, add a last initial so everyone can tell them apart.
- 2
Add exclusions if you need them
Pick two people who shouldn't draw each other, such as partners or roommates. Neither will draw the other.
- 3
Set a spending limit
Optional. The limit shows on every reveal page, so nobody has to ask the group chat again.
- 4
Draw names and send the links
Copy each person's private link and send it to them, or open it on your phone and hand it around the room. Each link shows only its owner's match.

Frequently asked questions
- How does the Secret Santa generator work?
- Enter everyone's name, add any pairs who shouldn't draw each other and press Draw names. Everyone gets one other person to buy for, so each person gives one gift and receives one. Then send each person their private reveal link, or copy their pairing into a message.
- Is it free, and do I need to sign up?
- It's free, with no signup and no email addresses. The draw runs in your browser, and you can draw again as often as you like until the group is happy.
- Do you store the names?
- No. Names are not sent to our server or saved. Each reveal link carries one person's match inside the link itself, after the # sign, and browsers don't send that part to websites. That also means we can't recover a lost draw, so copy the links before you close the page.
- How do I stop couples from drawing each other?
- Under Exclusions, pick the two people and add the pair. They won't draw each other in either direction. Add as many pairs as you need, for partners, siblings or roommates.
- What if the generator says the draw is impossible?
- Too many exclusions can leave no valid draw, for example when two people can only draw the same third person. The generator names the people who are stuck. Remove one of their exclusions or add another person.
- Can the organizer take part without knowing who drew whom?
- Yes. Matches stay hidden after the draw unless you choose to show them. Send each person their reveal link and open your own link like everyone else.
- Can someone see another person's match?
- Each link only contains its owner's match, so nobody can see the whole draw from their link. The link isn't encrypted, though: send it only to the person it's for, like any private message.
- How much should a Secret Santa budget be?
- $15 to $25 is common for office exchanges, and $25 to $50 for friends and family. Add the limit before you draw and it appears on everyone's reveal page.
