Connect Claude and other AI assistants (MCP)
Let Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor plan gifts with you: people, birthdays, gift lists, gift plans and gift ideas.
GiftIdeasAI runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so AI assistants can plan gifts with you. Ask Claude to add your mom's birthday, find ideas for a gardener under $50, put the best ones on her list, or tell you which thank-you notes are still open.
Server URL: https://giftideasai.com/api/mcp
You sign in to GiftIdeasAI and choose one gift space; the assistant works only there, with your role's permissions. No API key needed.
Connect
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http giftideasai https://giftideasai.com/api/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick giftideasai and sign in.
Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app)
Open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it GiftIdeasAI and paste https://giftideasai.com/api/mcp. Claude opens GiftIdeasAI to sign in.
ChatGPT
In ChatGPT's connector settings (developer mode), create a connector with the server URL https://giftideasai.com/api/mcp and OAuth authentication.
Cursor and other clients
Add the server to the client's MCP configuration, for example in Cursor's mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"giftideasai": { "url": "https://giftideasai.com/api/mcp" }
}
}
Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth works: it registers itself, opens GiftIdeasAI to sign in, and asks for access.
With an API key instead
For a client without OAuth, or a script, use an API key from Settings → Gift space → Agents & API as a Bearer token:
claude mcp add --transport http giftideasai https://giftideasai.com/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer gia_your_key"
What happens when you connect
- The assistant sends you to GiftIdeasAI. Sign in with Google or a magic link (create an account first if you're new; guest sessions can't connect apps).
- Choose the gift space the assistant may use and review what it can do: read your people, occasions, gift lists, plans and received gifts, change them, and look up gift ideas.
- Click Allow. The assistant now acts as you, in that gift space only.

Tools that archive data are marked destructive, so assistants ask before using them. Reservations (who claimed which wishlist item) are never available to an assistant, so nothing spoils a surprise.
The tools use the same rules and limits as the REST API: find_gift_ideas allows 50 searches a day per gift space, and updates change only what the assistant sends.
Things to try
- "Add my sister Ana, her birthday is March 3rd, and remind me two weeks before."
- "Find gift ideas for Ana: she's 30, loves climbing and coffee, budget around $60. Put the three best on her birthday list."
- "Which gifts did I plan for Christmas that I haven't bought yet?"
- "Mark the scarf from Grandma as thanked."
Disconnect
Open Settings → Account → Connected apps and click Disconnect. The assistant loses access immediately. You can connect it again any time.
